(教材P2)I was looking at the photos on the noticeboard when I heard a voice behind me.
我正在浏览公告栏上的图片,这时听见背后有人说话。
句中的when是并列连词,意为“就在这时”。相当于and then或and at the same time。
be about to do...when... 正要做……这时……
be on the point of doing...when... 正要做……这时……
had just done...when... 刚做了……这时……

他正在睡觉,这时有人敲门。

too...to do sth. 太……而不能做某事
(教材P3)I had been too nervous to pay attention when he introduced himself!
他做自我介绍时,我太紧张没怎么注意。
too...to do sth.“太……而不能做某事”,此处是一个表示否定意义的句型。too后面通常接形容词或者副词。
(1)某些形容词与“too... to...”句型连用时,too(= very)表示肯定的意义。这些形容词多为表示情感的词,如glad, pleased, surprised, delighted, happy, easy, willing, ready, eager, anxious等。
(2)当在too前加上only, but, all, simply或just时,“too...to”结构表示肯定意义,此时too带有赞赏的感情色彩。
(3)“too... to...”结构和never, not等否定副词连用时,表示肯定意义,意为“无论……也不过分,越……越好”。
