一、过去进行时
1. 定义
过去进行时表示在________某一时刻或某一时间段内________发生或进行的动作。

常用的时间状语有at five yesterday, the whole morning, when/while 引导的时间状语从句。
二、must 的用法
1. must 是________动词,后面要接实义动词或be动词的原形。
2. must 意为“必须”,mustn't 意为“不准;禁止”。
3. must 还可以用来表示推测,意为“________”,用于肯定句, 表示较大可能的推测。否定的推测要用can't, 意为“________”。

1. At the beginning, I was afraid to try writing a poem. 起初,我不敢尝试写诗。
at the beginning起初,开始,相当于at first。at the beginning of意为“在……的开始”,后跟名词或代词。

2. so… that …如此……以至……,引导结果状语从句,that从句中常加情态动词。例如:
The TV set costs so much that I can’t buy it.

另外,so…that…还可以引导目的状语从句,“以便”。例如:

1.Which do you prefer to write,poems or stories?
prefer为动词,意为“更喜欢,宁愿”,相当于like…better。一般不用于进行时态。常见用法如下:
(1)prefer sth.表示“更喜欢某物”。
(2)prefer to do sth.表示“宁愿做某事”。
(3)prefer(doing)A to(doing)B表示“比起(做)B来更喜欢(做)A”,其中to为介词。
(4)prefer to do A rather than do B表示“宁愿做A而不愿做B”。

在下列动词后往往加不定式作宾语:want,hope,wish,like,begin,start,try,agree,learn,promise,refuse,decide等。
3.We read many different kinds of poems.
many different kinds of意为“许多不同种类的……”。
【拓展】a kind of意为“一种……”,all kinds of意为“各种各样的”。
4.At the beginning I was afraid to try writing a poem.
◆at the beginning意为“开始时,起初”,at也可以换成in,后接of短语时,只能用at the beginning。
◆be afraid to do sth.意为“害怕做某事”。

本句中it作形式主语,真正的主语是动词不定式短语to write that poem。在英语中动词不定式作主语时,常用it作形式主语,而将动词不定式放于句末。
